The Development and Validation of a New Multidimensional Test Anxiety Scale (MTAS)

Abstract. Although test anxiety has a long history in the educational and psychological literature there is lack of census over its dimensionality. The aim present study was to clarify dimensionality develop new instrument reflect this Across two empirical studies we tested refined multidimensional comprising cognitive dimensions (Worry Cognitive Interference) affective-physiological (Tension Physiological Indicators). In both studies, four-correlated-factors higher order models showed good fit data. Test positively related an existing measure (the Anxiety Inventory) elevated risk mental health problems, negatively school well-being examination performance. This will prove welcome addition for practitioners, assist identification highly anxious students who may require support or intervention, researchers.
